Email Trigger Automation
Have you ever wanted to trigger automation off of an email open? I get this problem all the time with my Infusionsoft clients. If you call their technical support they’re going to tell you “It’s not possible”. This only partially true. Infusionsoft did not build into their program a way to trigger automation if a contact opens an email you send them. However, there is a hack / workaround for triggering automation from an open email!
Today is your lucky day because I’m going to be going through step by step on how to trigger automation from an Infusionsoft email on this post.
I want to give a shout out to John Borelli who is the Infusionsoft genius that I learned this little trick from! He has a youtube channel that he posts all kinds of helpful tips from. You can check it out when you have time.
I know what you’re thinking, “How is this possible?” Well let me break it down for you. If you still don’t understand, then watch the video.
Step of creating automation trigger from an opened email:
- Create a regular automation link. Take the automation link id so that you can use it inside of the email as a merge field.
- Place the image element inside of the email you are creating.
- <img src= “~Link-REPLACE LINK ID HERE~” width=”1″ height=”1″ />
- Paste code below inside of the image and change out the automation link id.
- Test it.
For those who are savvy inside of Infusionsoft this will not take very long. This can take longer if you’re new to it.
As a solution this is an easy way to get around triggering automation from an open email. For the record, I think it is a good idea for people to be using click through rates as an indicator for engagement. I have found that people who open the email are not always quality engagements. Using an open as a trigger for automation is not always the best thing to do. However, I understand why it needs to be used.
